PlayBack

PlayBack is a 0.1 beta release. It is based on Tridge's vplay.

It may have many problems I have not found yet.

It has caused no data lose on any test systems.

BACK UP YOUR SYSTEM BEFORE USING.

Under 1.3 not everything works (On screen selections broken.).

Under 2.0 everything seems to work.

The program allow editing/playback/extraction of media stream files, including from DTV media.

Under 2.0 it allows onscreen selection of media streams.

The program is intended for Philips SA units. No support is included for sony units.

oh jeeze, dude...
Nicely Done!!!!!!

of course i find this when i'm at work!!!!!
...come on 10pm!!!!

-update-

...figured i'd better put this at the top, i'm running 2.5.

here we go!

well, one word of warning, if you run this while on the tivo central screen, the first thing it does is to delete a show off your now playing list! (tivo was very confused.)the program starts and myworld never shuts down! i had to start another telnet session to go in and reboot it.

#2. figured i'd be smart this time, start it while playing a vid. it killed myworld ok, then:

retrying after errTmBackgroundHoldoff ...

Title: Pay-Per-View

TyStream: 133387 133389 133390 133391 133392 133393

reboot!

#3. same thing as #2, without the "retrying after errTmBackgroundHoldoff ..."

#4. tried this time from live tv. see #3.

this is on a old 112 chassis w/ a 312 non-tivomad and non-mfstools drive. (dd backup)
running 2.5 w/tivonet, straight sub, no tricks.

nuttin' has started smokin' yet, so i must be ok so far, eh?

Fugg,
Yah, I knew it crashes the 2.5 DTV boxes (noted in manual), interesting to know that it will reboot a 2.51 SA as well...
Looks like tivo may have built in protestion against the core vplay code into the later versions.

I will try to look into why it deleated a show... I had not seen that behaviour during testing, but then I don't have 2.51 to test against. The program is currently shutting down MyWorld with SendKey, as a quick hack. I added an initial 'select' key because otherswise it could hang up on a NagScreen. I will have another way to kill 'MW', but will probably be the weekend before it is done.

Did you try playing using the TyStream ID from teh command line?

yep, same results. reboot.

i think it deleted the vid simply because i started it on the tivo central screen. the first thing it does when it starts is select, clear, enter, clear, thumbsdown.

i started at the tivo central screen:

select

(now on now playing)

clear
(delete the first vid (or whichever one it was on))

enter

(verify delete)

woops!(hehe!)

no sweat, dude. i'm proud and more than willing to be your guinea pig!

this thing would'nt be much fun if all i did was watch tv on it!

Beta 0.2

Use only with Philips(TM) StandAlone 2.0 systems.

Startup has been modified to shutdown MyWorld with SendKeys. The program should be launchable from any screen.

A delay has been added after FF/RW to allow audio to resync with video before PLAY resumes.

OnScreen mode has been expanded to include playback from an alternate device list.

several utils files are included, which should be placed in the same directory as PlayBack.

It looks like you forgot to attach version 0.2!

Alsi, if anybody can send me a /tvbin/text2osd,
I will try it out on a 1.3 system with this
software.

Thanks. I have to stick with 1.3 as I'm in a
PAL country and I'm using tridge's palkit. I've
contributed my own tools to the TiVo community,
see http://minnie.tuhs.org/Programs/Fetch_one,
and I've got the C cross-compiler working here.
I'd like to help you with development; in
particular to ensure that it keeps working on
a 1.3 TiVo.

Do you think playback could be modified to use
any of the osd tools written by others?

This version is intended for use with 2.0 Stand alone units. It can read 2.0 DirecTv drives, but cannot playback audio in those systems.

In 1.3 StandAlone systems, it should work when used directly with FSID's, but you will have to obtain them outside of the program. When you record a program you may find that it attempts to save the output file off of '/' rather than the current directory. I had made several changes to support multi file playback required by 2.0 that may keep 1.3 from working correclty.

I have been playing with other things and not doing much with this,

Thanks for that. I'd still like to get the src to
work on it & would happily sign an NDA or whatever, and feedback any changes to you for integration.

Yes it can be modified to work with osd and other tools. 1.3 does not seem to support the shell call format I am using. I will be refining this for a long time, for now I want to get the core system going to a home video on demand server.

The base code I am working from is available elsewhere on this forum. For now I not releasing code because I intended the project for learning/fun, and if I start working with someone I will immediately go into competition mode.

Ok, as long as you don't mind me filing bug
reports, rather than fixing them

Thanks for the tool & good luck with the development.

I've just tried PlayBack 0.1 and 0.2 on a TiVo 1.3 system. 0.1 exports to ext2, but 0.2 doesn't save anything, i.e it doesn't create a directory.

Could you add a button to export to ext2 without
playing back on the video/audio devs, just to
speed the exporting?

A few other little things, but overall I'd say that this is a great tool to have!

Thanks again.

Not for a while. I still have a lot of things to get things working right under 2.0. Initial testing under 2.5 and 2.5.1 causes reboots. Trying to view compressed files from the 2.5 file systems causes reboots even when running on 2.0. Tivo appears to have taken some active steps to make it harder to process the compressed video.

For the time being I am using 2.0 DTivos for collecting and 2.0 SAs for edit/playback.

The next step is to enable show selection and playback from the server. Then to allow eding from server. Finally to auto extraction.
